Dr. Jose Guadalupe Hernandez Vargas


Dr. José Gpe.Hernández Vargas received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO), Jesuit University in Guadalajara, Jal., Mexico.

He did postgraduate studies at the prestigious Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, E. U. A., where he attended the Masters in Clinical-Community Psychology (MS) and PhD. in Community Psychology.

During graduate school, Dr. Hernandez Vargas conducted clinical practice with families and children in institutions such as:

  • The Rutherford County Guidance Center (Mental Health Community Center), located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. U.S.A.
  • The Child Study Center, under the Kennedy Center for the Study and Research on Human Development.
  • The Diabetes Research and Training Center, School of Medicine, Vanderbilt University.

He worked in the Department of Health and Community Psychology for 16 years at ITESO and in different roles as academic coordinator of the degree in Psychology and other academic programs as well as researcher and professor. He taught subjects such as Community Psychology, Environmental Psychology and Ecological Assessment, Research Methodology, Family Therapy, Research Seminar, Degree Seminars and more.

Dr. Hernandez Vargas served for 10 years as an academic facility in the Department CETYS Graduate University (Tijuana, BC, Mexico). He served as Director of the School of Psychology and was responsible for the undergraduate program in Psychology in both Tijuana and Mexicali, as well as graduate programs in Psychology, which included a Masters Degree in Psychology and Masters Degree in Family Therapy. It was institutional representative to the National Council for Teaching and Research in Psychology (CNEIP).

He has designed Diploma Programs and Graduate Programs.

Designer and lecturer of workshops and courses, taught diverse audiences.

Since 1985, serving individuals, couples and families in private practice.

He published during 5 years a weekly column in the Family Section of the newspaper Frontera of Tijuana, about family and relationship development.
